BENEFITING: CIRCLE OF HEALTH INTERNATIONAL
EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2013
As the civil war in Syria intensifies, the refugees living in the Za'atari Camp in Jordan have little hope of returning to their homes soon. There are an estimated 19,000-30,000 refugees living in the camp, including thousands of women and children who have fled the ongoing violence in Syria. Their future is confined to the camp's boundaries, and they must find a means to support themselves and their families. While hundreds of men have found employment doing physical labor within the camp, the opportunities for women are scarce. Many of the women in Za'atari traveled to the camp alone with their children and as the head of the household, they experience significant financial stress in addition to the trauma and anguish they experienced from escaping a war.
COHI has partnered with Relief International to provide women with the skills and confidence they need to improve their quality of life. Our goal is to provide vocational training for these women to learn income generating skills in the subjects of hair and beauty, sewing, and cooking. The skills from these courses will allow the refugees to earn money while living in Za'atari and will give them hope for a successful life outside of the camp at war's end. These refugees need access to safe economic opportunities, and with your support, COHI and RI will be able to provide access to a brighter future for these women and their families.
