BENEFITING: NEPHCURE FOUNDATION
To celebrate my birthday this year, I am asking YOU to help kids who are living with nephrotic syndrome. NephCure is a nonprofit near Philly that focuses exclusively on finding a cause and cure for nephrotic syndrome, including minimal change disease (which is the type of nephrotic syndrome that I had).
Growing up with this chronic disease changes your life in many ways. Instead of going on dates every Saturday, you go to the hospital for blood tests every Saturday. Instead of lacing up sneakers for gym class, you wonder if you will ever see your ankles again. Instead of shopping for prom dresses, you shop for elastic waist pants (very stylish in high school!) to accomodate your edema. Instead of venting about how the Prednisone is making you sick, you listen to your doctor say he is adding a cancer drug that might make your hair fall out. Instead of being a normal height person you are stuck at 4'11".
I tell you this not to be melodramatic, but to encourage you to join me to celebrate that I have now spent more years in remission than the years I spent taking steroids and going to hospitals. Any amount at all, even $1, is appreciated.
