BENEFITING: STRIKE 3 FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Jun 28, 2015
On June 28, 2015, I will be running the Faxon Law Group Fairfield Half-Marathon in support of the Strike 3 Foundation. The Strike 3 Foundation is a charitable agency begun by Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Craig Breslow that heightens awareness, mobilizes support, and fundraises for childhood cancer research. My childhood was free of disease and disability, and I enjoyed all that it had to offer, from playing youth soccer and Little League baseball to just playing with friends and going to school. I simply want to help these children and give them hope for a future. You can find more information at www.strike3foundation.org.
Running has always been a part of my life, starting as a left striker in youth soccer. For the past eight years, I have taken running seriously, training for half-marathons, perfecting my form, and enjoying the running high that it brings. As I have left competitive high school running and recreational college running behind, I have wanted to give my running a sense of purpose, that I could somehow make a difference with my talents. Running this half-marathon will give me that chance. Not only will I be raising money for a fabulous cause, helping to relieve the burden forced upon many children to suffer through cancer, but I will also give hope to those watching me run. My past two half-marathons were in Alexandria, VA and Lakewood, CO (a suburb of Denver), where I finished second and first overall, with times of 1:17:13 and 1:26:38, respectively.
My goal this June is to run a 6 min/mile pace, finishing at about 1 hour, 18 minutes.
