Hello everyone, My name is Aundrea Stilson. I am 20 years old. I have been deaf since birth, and grew up in a very small town in Illinois with few resources to help me with my disability. When I was 13, my mom helped me get to Illinois School for the Deaf, a place where I could learn sign language, make friends, and overcome many challenges. I learned that I had a place in the world! I graduated from high school, and now I want to apply at Rochester Institute Technology University in New York. This is a wonderful school that prepares deaf adults for a career and fullness of life in the world. My goal is to get a degree in Criminal Justice! I believe I could make a difference and help many people and victims. Personally, I also want very badly to continue my education. I believe in myself and know that I can succeed if I have a college education. Being deaf will not stop me. I could bring special skills, like helping through sign-language, to the work I will do when I graduate. I cannot reach my financial need without help, and I hope that you will think about my request. I want to get started this fall. I can take steps to my degree one class, one semester at a time if you believe in me too. I can’t wait to graduate. You will know you made a difference, and you will be proud of me! Thank you so much!
