Increasing College Access at Lee County High School
Organized by: Kelly Hagerty
College access is one of the greatest obstacles for low-income and first generation college-bound high school students.
As a way to increase the college-going culture at Lee County High School in Sanford, NC, we are increasing our attention toward providing information and resources to every student about college and financial aid, and encouraging every student to consider post-secondary education. By increasing outreach to students, we hope to help them realize all of the opportunities that exist after high school and understand the means to get there.
The money we raise will be allocated to the following:
- Transportation for campus visits and tours
- College planning resources and ACT/SAT study materials to distribute to students
- ACT/SAT prep workshops
- Naviance College and Career Readiness System
My name is Kelly Hagerty. I work at Lee County High School as a college adviser through the Duke University College Advising Corps. The focus of the program is to promote the college-going culture in high schools across the state of North Carolina with special attention paid to first generation and low-income students.
