Collegiate Charter High School of Los Angeles Seed Fund
Organized by: Vanessa Jackson
Collegiate is a proposed secondary school seeking to offer a new public model of academic rigor and college preparation to Eastside Los Angeles families. The school’s founders believe that all students, regardless of race, socioeconomic class, or country of origin, can achieve at high levels when they have access to quality K-12 education.
Collegiate’s small school model will feature an extended day and year, structured and safe culture, individualized tutoring and support to meet all students’ needs, daily academic advising, a highly rigorous academic curriculum, and intensive college advising and support to ensure that 100% of our students attend and graduate from four-year colleges.
Collegiate will open in August 2015 in Boyle Heights, a community home to many low-income, first generation college-going children. Starting with ninth grade, Collegiate will add a grade level each year until we are a full 9-12 school preparing 456 students for success in four-year colleges. Collegiate will serve any student who is ready to commit to the hard work of climbing the mountain to college graduation. We will enroll students through a public admissions lottery and any student may apply and attend.
Our founding team is working hard to secure a charter, recruit and prepare our founding students and families, hire great teachers, identify a campus, and ready our school for operational and programmatic success.
We are asking you to support the exciting work of Collegiate's founding phase by making a contribution to the Collegiate's Seed Fund. Your contribution will support vitally important work as we ready Collegiate for opening. Contributions will enable us to market our school to prospective families, recruit and hire an incredible team of founding faculty, secure grant writing to obtain $575,000 in Federal start-up funding, and develop the school's curriculum and instructional materials.
Classroom Naming Competition
As part of building highly visible college-going culture, Collegiate will name all classrooms in the school after four-year colleges and universities that evidence strong graduation rates and sound financial aid practices.
To help reach our goal of $15,000 and to inspire our students, we are setting up a donation challenge by college for Collegiate classroom naming rights. When you make your contribution, we encourage you to select a four-year institution below for classroom naming rights. No matter which college you select, your dollars will go to the Collegiate Seed Fund. The two colleges below that boast the greatest total dollar amount in donations and the greatest number of individuals donating will have classrooms named after them at Collegiate.
Let’s use the month of August to make an impact for underserved students in Eastside Los Angeles by raising funds for Collegiate. Working together, we will set Collegiate on a path toward closing the college completion gap for hundreds -- eventually thousands -- of students for years to come.
