Colors project starts in 2007, in Italy, to help marginalized kids, both Italians and immigrants in disadvantaged suburbs. The Colors project makes basketball an instrument of growth and integration. To date we have opened 12 Italian centers that train hundreds of children and young people of 32 different nationalities. In 2009 the Colors project has also been operating in Mozambique, with the opening of a first center at the orphanage center Arco Iris (Zimpeto, outskirts of Maputo). More than 100 young girls can now play basketball and learn the values of sport, community and personal development. Since 2010, two teams of girls (under 12 and under 16) involved in the project were recognized at the federal championship of Mozambique (country that has a great tradition of women basketball). Despite having to deal with much more experienced teams, the two teams have won the playoffs a few years ago, ranking second and third in their respective categories. In January 2011, a group of them was also invited in Italy (Rome) for a week, having the great opportunity of seeing another country and playing against teams in Italy. They were hosted by families of Italian players. The initiative was a big success, it gave hopes to disadvantaged children and shows an image of Africa proud and hopeful. Our objective is to consolidate the project, its model, its sustainability, to develop more centers and root them in the communities, increasing cooperation with local entities. It is important to help children integrating, learning values of respect, sharing and team work, and to educate future members of our societies. The costs related to the project are high and have been funded to date by institutional media and many friends who individually have contribute. Help us opening other centers in new regions, in Italy and abroad (primarily in Mozambique)! these are just indications of costs related to the project: With 60 euro you can ensure the material and outfits for a boy or a girl! With 250 EUR you can adopt a "quintet" of young players! With 2500 we support the annual operation of a whole center! Thank you!
