EVENT DATE: Jun 19, 2014
Hey guys- what do you call a very fast llama?
Har har *golf clap*
So, most of my friends and family know that I'm not attached to material things- so for this year, instead of presents, I'd love for you to donate to Acumen Fund.
Why Acumen Fund?
Short answer: I just got a job at this incredible nonprofit- so indirectly you'd be paying my wages, well gee, gracias!
Long answer: Acumen Fund's believes impoverished people around the world do not need or want handouts, but instead they are full economic consumers and should have access to choice and demand.
What Acumen Fund does is raise charitable donations (that's where you're helping!) and then invests in companies providing affordable goods/services to lower income people. These include agricultural inputs, quality education, clean energy, healthcare services, formal housing, and safe drinking water etc.
Here's an example: Acumen Fund invested in WHI, a company that now has 500 community water systems, where 500,000 low-income individuals can buy water. Keyword: BUY. This is a sustainable business model that will last.
TLDR (too long didn't read): donate money and the world will be a better place.
I've traveled a lot, and have seen so many kinds of development work, and really believe this is one of the best way to combat poverty around the world. Please help me reach my goal, 26 hundred dollars for my 26th birthday, and I will do a dance for you later.
