BENEFITING: New Haven Ecology Project
ORGANIZER: Common Ground
EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2015
I support Common Ground because it treasures bringing people together - students, adults and people from all over New Haven and all walks of life - to build a healthy, dynamic community committed to making our environment a safer, more just place. In this crazy, uncertain, stressful world, Common Ground is a beautiful, calming presence.
What do I love about Common Ground? As a Common Ground board member, I love that we have an amazing charter school of smart, inquisitive young people (a place where test scores continue to climb!) and dynamic, nurturing teachers who are inspired to make a difference in the environment and let their voices be heard in powerful ways. I love that we have an organic farm - beautiful, fresh healthy food is grown that's used for school lunches and that we sell in our local community. I love that we bring pepople together for awesome learning experiences - from a workshop on fermenting to cool night time hikes. Simply put, this place is a New Haven gem and simply rocks!
It's a wonderful place, a safe haven, a school, a learning center and farm all rolled up into one! Please join me in supporting this awesome organization that is all about creating positive change in New Haven.
Thank you so much for your support!
PS - Here are some more details about Common Ground if it's new to you. :)
Common Ground is a high school, urban farm, and community environmental education center in New Haven. We work to bring our community together and share a love of learning, discovery, and the natural world. We cultivate habits of healthy living and sustainable environmental practice among a diverse community of children, young people, and adults.
We want our place to be your place, too.
As a whole, Common Ground is a center for environmental learning and leadership located in New Haven, CT. It is a place where all members of the community – young and elementary-aged children, middle and high school students, the general public, and environmental practitioners – can find connections to the local environment, each other, and opportunities for learning and engagement.
Common Ground connects farm, forest, and city. Our working farm includes production and educational gardens, and a variety of animals. Located at the base of West Rock Ridge, our site includes 20 acres of forest with hiking trails, wildlife, and diverse natural habitats. Within New Haven city limits, Common Ground seeks to explore urban ecology and develop paths to urban sustainability.
