Community Action House was started in 1969 to meet the needs of our community’s poor. We've done our best to serve amidst changes and diversity. Today, we have two food pantry locations, a Community Kitchen, Case Management, Foreclosure Prevention. We also offer education classes on home ownership and home maintenance, and operate an Empowerment Institute tasked with equipping people with the mindsets needed to achieve goals and success, with self-awareness and personal responsibility. All of this is interwoven with the resale activities at the General Store, where we turn donations items (like clothing and furniture) into community supportive programs.
Nothing we do happens without community support in the form of volunteers, material and financial donations. We rely on about 400 volunteers annually who give of their time by serving on the board, connecting with visitors, assisting in our resale operations, growing vegetables, and serving meals at the Kitchen.
