Hi! My name is Beatrice Saylas Kasimba. I’m a volunteer Community Activist – my work is to prevent violence, ensure peace is there and bring people together in unity. I’ve lived in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda for the last 3 years, but I’m from Burundi originally.
My idea is for the ladies! It’s usually men who are riding bicycles. But we ladies can, too. We have the power and energy to ride, too. My idea is to hold a bike race for women who live in Nakivale. Anyone who doesn’t own a bike, we’ll help them borrow one.
And whichever lady wins the race, she’ll win a bicycle that she can use to bring her kids to school, bring vegetables to sell, carry water or just get some exercise.
My goal is to encourage all women that we can do as men are doing. I hope you will support me and join me on World Refugee Day – June 20!
