Hello! My name is Megan Cresci-Johnson. I am a teacher at The Met High School in Providence, RI. As a teacher at The MET School, I am reaching out to you to assist me in the challenge of raising funds to take a group of six students from Providence, RI to San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico in February 2016. We work through RISE Now, which is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to bringing people together through community building events, projects and publication.
Please consider helping my group of inner city youth finance this profound learning opportunity. Last year's trip was a great success and I'd love to provide this new class with this experience of a lifetime.
My students are learning critical planning and finance skills while organizing this trip to Mexico where they will have a firsthand cultural experience in San Cristobal joining other volunteers from around the world in a team building effort, while creatively building an ecologically sound playground (using recycled material) for other underprivileged youth.
While challenging them intellectually, culturally and creatively, this trip teaches them that human connections and relationships are what motivate people to take action. We aim to empower them as they find ways to take action in service of others and the environment. We believe it will not be a strong leader or government that will bring real lasting change, but a multitude of responsible individuals taking action in their own communities.
Please help me teach my students to be strong leaders and to show them first-hand how they can work together to make their world a better place.

For 3 years our grassroots, 501(c)3, Nonprofit has been making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children and adults. How? By the simple act of bringing playgrounds to communities, schools and towns where there are none today.
We bring together people from around the world to volunteer on the planning and building of imaginative playgrounds made of post consumer tires.
So far we have:
- Built 15 creative playgrounds.
- Involved over 300 hundred of volunteers, from 7 different countries.
- Repurposed over 2000 tires that were headed to landfills or incineration.
- Impacted the lives of thousands of children and communities.
We have done this as a 100% volunteer run organization, funded purely by small donations from individuals like you.
These projects sow the seeds of hope and empowerment for all involved and we are asking for your support.
Next year we plan to do even more! We have 8 playground sites lined up. We will have 2 teams building simultaneously, upcycling another 2000 and turning them into dragons, rocket ships, elephants and more.
When we all work together: donors, volunteers, and partner organizations, free from religious, political or personal agendas, amazing positive progress can be made in short amounts of time. We have seen it with our own eyes.
Take a moment and consider what a wonderful privilege it is to have the opportunity to share the good fortune we experience. At RISE Now we believe that with this privilege comes a responsibility to serve.
Thank you for joining us in this effort.
