BENEFITING: COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA
ORGANIZER: COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA
EVENT DATE: Nov 20, 2016
Donating an average of 339,000 meals every week to the people of our very own community who struggle with hunger, the food bank of eastern Oklahoma was an easy choice for my charity of choice.
Hunger is a genuine issue in the Tulsa area. I've seen and known those who have been personally affected by the sting of not having a meal to eat. I've also known those who depend on the services the food bank provides. The backpack program is a personal favorite of mine, allowing children to have food to eat over the weekend while school is in session, they are sent home with a backpack of non-perishable food items to help feed themselves between school days, when before they would have to survive on things like stolen ketchup packets to make "ketchup soup".
Proper nutrition is vital to any young and developing mind and as we all know if a child is worried about having basic needs, they can't possibly be expected to learn and flourish.
Kyle and I feel as if we struggle financially at times. I have scoured the pantry and had to get creative for dinners that my kids would eat. But never have we had to send our children to bed hungry. With any luck our children will never know the pain and uncertainty that so many face daily, unsure from where their next meal will come.
We have been blessed with fabulous family support, but we are aware that not everyone is so lucky.
During the holiday season the shelves of the food bank reach an all time low.
Please help me to raise funds for this organization, and together we can help to end hunger.
