BENEFITING: COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA
ORGANIZER: Community Food Bank of Eastern OK
I am full time mother to a beatiful 2 year old girl. She is my life! I am also a part time nurse. And, like anyone, my life can get pretty stressful sometimes. Even though I hold a degree in Health Exercise Sciences, I had let things go at some point and became lax about my workout routine and focusing my energy on being healthy. This summer, I decided it was time to make a change. So, I committed myself to doing the 10th Anniversary Route 66 Half Marathon (my silly knees won't endure the full).
My life and health has taken a major turn for the better since I started training for the Route 66. I found a long training schedule and started with 2-3 mile runs in July. Now, I get up early and start my mornings with a run 4 days a week (T,Th, Sat, Sun). I run outside in the neighborhoods around my house. My wonderful husband watches my daughter while I run... unless I sleep through my alarm. If I sleep in, she gets to come with me! (When she goes, I push the jogging stoller and we call it our "bunny rabbit hunt" and see how many we can spot along the way- fun!). It is a major commitment to run 4 days a week and stretch before & after but, in my opinion, it has been worth every minute. It is my time to unwind and de-stress. My long runs are the toughest and the best runs. After about 5 miles, all my worries fade away and my mind is clear and peaceful.. it is almost spiritual. Since July, I have trained over 100 miles and running!
Since I chose to do this run with my health and wellness in mind and have been feeling great, it inspired me to also support other's health and wellness. So, when I got the email from the Route 66 Team about running for charity, I was stoked! I wanted extend my healthy journey to help others as well. Now, I am running for myself and a good cause!
MY CHOSEN CHARITY
I have always been blessed with a home and plenty of food on the table. Sometimes, so much I would overindulge and get a little belly to run off.
Most people are looking for the new fad diet or cure all for obesity. So much that we forget there are also people suffering on the other end of the spectrum.
It is hard to imagine that 1 in 6 Oklahomans face hunger every day. But is is true and many of those going hungry are children and the elderly who can't fend for themselves. It breaks my heart to think of it.
But, we can make a difference! For every $1 donated, the Community Food Bank can provide 4 meals for hungry families! That is a lot of bang for your buck!
I ask that you support me in this wonderful journey while donating to a wonderful cause. The holiday seasons are coming up and everyone deserves a hot meal; especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a win-win! You get the warm fuzzies knowing you helped feed hungry people and they get a hot meal! Yay!
And, the Route 66 Marathon matches donations up to $25,000. So you automatically get your donation doubled!
After you donate, you can follow me on my journey with picture and video updates through this page. I will think of a special way to honor all those that donated on race day and post it on this page. Thank you!
