BENEFITING: FUND FOR THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC
I volunteer at a small community garden in Greenpoint Brooklyn. We found our space because Paula Segal made a map of lots in NYC that are owned by NYC and slated to be sold to developers for $1 to build "affordable housing." (In Greenpoint, "affordable housing" is about 60% more than the average Greenpoint resident can afford.)
In 2011, Paula went to our lot in the middle of the night and put a little sign on the chain link fence that said something like: "This Land Is Your Land. (Email me for more info.)" Fast forward to 2016: Our community garden grew in membership and panache. Last week we found out that NYC removed our garden lot from the "for sale" list and transferred it to the Parks Dept. More than 30 other community garden lots were moved to Parks that day.
We want to say: thank you Paula, for helping people improve their communities.
Please give $10 to support 596 Acres (the Fund for the City of New York is 596 Acres' fiscal sponsor.)
Please forward to people who want to see more communities empowered through Paula's work.
