In 2011 I joined a group of young adults who were tied with the single goal of helping elders in their community. Together we raked yards and disposed of several tons of rubbage. In the midst of our tasks I came to realize the impact we had on our volunteer members and the community elders we were helping. I believe that the single most important lesson we can teach our children is responibility. I believe that in order to strengthen our communitis we must strengthen the individual ties that make us a community. On my path to find these strengthening exercises I have learned that what most people, young and old, who stray from a positive and productive path are lacking is a moral and compassionate guidence. Coming from a poor and less than desirable childhood myself I understand the impacts of having positive experiences in my life. Having people who care, who spend time to nurture and share there wisdom was one of the greatest gifts I ever received. I wish to share those same gifts with as many people as a can in this lifetime. In 2014 I formed a small group of volunteers made up of students from the local university along with a few of my neighbors and with the help of a local non-profit was able to identify and help needing elders in my new community. With little more than a handfull of rakes and gloves we were able to reproduce the same positive results as I had witness before. Young adults foynda new understanding of taking responibilty in their sociey and elders found new friends who they could turn to in need. My goal is to spread this program to every city and community where people suffer from lack of positive role models and moral leaders. I wish to combat drug abuse, voilence, depression... through social interaction, acts of kindness. Help me to raise funding for this program. We need to acquire a means of reliable transportation for the volunteers, we need tools to work with (rakes, shovels, gloves, brooms), we need money for fuel and travel expenses for those small, peripheral communities. My goal for this year is solidify this program and to create a structure that I can copy in the coming seasons. Thank you for your time, I look forward to the future.
