Hii! I was recently selected as a Fellow with Community Water Solutions (CWS) for this coming summer. In an effort to raise awareness for both water access issues and my personal work and interests, I'm raising funds to further CWS initiatives in northern Ghana.
About me: As I wrap-up my Master of City & Regional Planning (MCRP) degree in Community Natural Resource Management, I seek the opportunity to understand small-scale, community-based solutions to issues that occur globally. Only with insight on relevant social, political, economic, environmental and physical conditions will it be possible to understand development and find sustainable ways to address local barriers to access.
About CWS: They partner with rural communities in developing countries to provide the initial start-up equipment and training to create a water treatment center business. Their strategies particularly resonate with me in two ways: they use locally-sourced materials for treatment, and the women who run the businesses are nominated by their own communities. This approach serves dual sustainable purposes: ensures the longevity of both operations and businesses themselves, as well as the viability of the technology and economic opportunity.
