Hello! Thanks for visiting! And welcome to my fundraising page!
I have recently been accepted as a Summer 2013 Fellow with Community Water Solutions (CWS), an amazing non-profit organization that partners with rural communities in developing countries to establish sustainable drinking treatment businesses. The businesses are owned and operated in the communities that they serve and use affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution and storage of clean and safe drinking water.
For 3 weeks in June and July, I will be working in Tamale, Ghana to implement a CWS water business in a new village. Once established, the business will provide a permanent source of safe drinking water for 700-1000 people in Ghana where half of the 1.8 million residents lack access to secure sources of drinking water.
Since the start of the Fellowship Program in June 2010, CWS has hosted 121 students and young professionals in Ghana who have implemented water businesses in 31 rural villages, providing permanent sources of safe drinking water for over 15,500 people! All CWS water business that have been implemented thus far are now consistently selling water and earning enough money not only to sustain the business, but also to provide a small income to the women who work there.
CWS is effectively combating the water crisis in Ghana and I am very excited to be working with them. The funds necessary to establish these water businesses is generated through fundraising and as a fellow, I am responsible for a portion of the fundraising. The funds I raise will go directly towards the supplies needed to build and operate the sustainable water treatment systems in the village. By raising funds, we can secure the money for all the supplies we need, but also spread awareness about CWS and the global water crisis.
884 million people lack access to safe water supplies. Additionally, every 19 seconds a mother loses one of her children to a water related illness. The CWS program works directly with people who need our help the most, and you can be assured that any money that you donate will be used directly to help build the system and teach the villagers how to maintain it.
With your help, we can continue to bring clean water to more villages in need!
My goal is to raise $3,000 for this project. Every little bit helps and I am so thankful to everyone who is helping out!
