BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
UPDATE: Through both the crowdrise site and mail in checks we were able to raise over $2,300! This amount allowed me to buy the campus all their needed tech and then some! On top of that, this summer I was able to earn enough money working to cover the cost of airfare to Kenya! I will be teaching a computer course from September 6th to the 16th. For anyone who donated, thank you so much for helping me provide these amazing girls with the needed tools to better their computer knowledge, it means so much to me, the great people working for Daraja, and the incredible girls themselves. If you have not donated yet, it is not too late! All funds recieved from this point on will still go straight to Daraja and will be used to buy more tech, get 24/7 electricity on campus, and anything else that is needed (food, water, school supplies, etc). If you would like to stay caught up with my trip, you can follow my project blog: iantbrodie.wordpress.com. I will begin posting the day of my departure.
Daraja Academy is a free, all girls, secondary school in Kenya. They take academically gifted girls, who would otherwise have no opportunity to get an education, and provide them with clothes, room and board, food, and everything else you can think of to allow them to have a comfortable environment in which to learn. However, they are in need of a modern computer lab. As future leaders in their community, it is vital these young women have the opportunity to be introduced to 21st-Century technology. Computer literacy is the key to opening new job opportunities for these hopeful, talented young people.
My name is Ian and I am a high school intern for the Carr Educational Foundation, which is based in Marin County, California. The foundation’s sole purpose is to financially support the Daraja Academy. My goal is to raise enough money to provide the school with a modern computer lab and technology based curriculum, but to accomplish this I will need your help!
The Daraja Academy needs laptops, wireless USB adapters, projectors, projector screens, and printers. All money donated will go straight to funding these items. My hope is to close the fundraiser in late June.
Any donation will get us one step closer to providing much needed technology to the young women at Daraja Academy. Thank you for your generosity and support of this important effort.
Donations to the Carr Educational Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
