Since 2013 we’ve been blessed with the opportunity to serve as one University with students, staff, and faculty from both our Ann Arbor and Wisconsin campuses traveling to New Orleans and Appalachia together. Each campus also plans an international trip—with Ann Arbor students traveling to Haiti and Mequon students traveling to Guatemala.
Haitians are reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew. With the loss of life and homes in Haiti, there is great need and opportunity for our group to serve and care for the hurting.
Local pastors in Guatemala help identify families in need, and each year our group builds an entire house from the ground up for one of those families. Even through the language barriers, the love and appreciation is evident, and a special bond forms between our group and the family they serve.
The Appalachian region is a unique part of the United States that struggles in poverty, while being rich in community and culture. Flooding has also affected the area in recent years, and there is no lack of work to be done. Our students learn so much while serving in Appalachia and connecting with the community there.
Even though it has been 11 years since Hurricane Katrina hit, the rebuilding work continues in New Orleans. This year, in additional to New Orleans, we also plan to spend some time in Baton Rouge where they were recently hit with severe flooding.
Please help support student mission trips and our students as they develop in body, mind, and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and the world!
