THE STORY:

EveryoneOn wrote -

Every child should be given the same opportunity to build a brighter future and to achieve their dreams.

That’s why the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Obama Administration have launched ConnectHome – a pilot initiative that will accelerate broadband adoption by children and families living in HUD-assisted housing across the nation.

EveryoneOn is collaborating with HUD and nonprofit U.S. Ignite to help implement this pilot in 28 communities across the United States. In each participating community, EveryoneOn is working with HUD to help coordinate involvement from public housing agencies, funders, Internet service providers, and community organizations and ensure a holistic approach to Internet adoption.

ConnectHome will accelerate broadband adoption and narrow the digital divide in communities across the nation. The pilot will address various barriers to broadband access, including the costs associated with high-speed service and electronic devices, and the need to provide residents with training in digital literacy.

In our experience working to end the digital divide across the country, we've found that access to low-cost devices drives enrollment in home Internet service.

Through this fundraiser, we seek to raise enough funds to subsidize the cost of 1 device for every family living in HUD-assisted housing across the 28 communities selected for this pilot.

We believe the problem of the digital divide is 100% solvable-- but it will take alignment of cross-sector partners and cataclysmic investments in these communities.

How will you help eliminate the digital divide?

  • $25 eliminates shipping costs for up to 10 families.
  • $100 secures one affordable tablet or digital learning device.
  • $1,000 provides devices for up to 10 families.
  • $10,000 provides devices for up to 100 families.
  • $50,000 provides devices for up to 500 families.
