EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2014
Miss Pea's Peeps are a group of people who are participating in the October 11, 2014 Hartford Marathon and raising money for Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The October 11 race offers a marathon, half marathon, 5k, relay, and kids fun run, so it is perfect for all fitness levels.
At 5 weeks of age Penelope was diagnosed with Biliary Atrisia, a rare congenital liver disorder, where the gallbladder ducts are not formed . The doctors of CCMC performed a Kasi surgery on tiny Miss Pea to drain the bile from her liver. The surgery has so far been a success and while she will need a liver transplant someday, Penelope is a growing and happy 7 month old little girl. From day one the doctors at CCMC were compassionate, knowledgeable and supportive. The facility offered a place not just for Penelope to heal but an environment where all we had to worry about was being with our daughter as she healed. There are so many children and so many families that are helped by CCMC. During Pea's recovery we met many children and parents, some in for a short procedure some in the hospital for months. CCMC provides so much more than medical care, they offer family rooms, laundry facilities, movies, toys, arts and crafts, just to name a few things to make the child's healing the only thing a family needs to worry about.
We are truly blessed to have found a great support network and medical care facility such as CCMC, and for our little girl who is a strong survivor. Please help us help those who children need the expert medical care of CCMC and sign up for Miss Pea's Peeps!
