BENEFITING: Connections for Abused Women and Their Children
EVENT: Purple Purse Challenge
I am reaching out to you because this cause is truly personal to me. My journey with domestic violence started when I was 7 years old. As a child and adolescent who grew up witnessing constant domestic conflict and violence at home, I understand the damaging and irreversible impact of domestic violence on a child's mind and overall wellbeing through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. I have personally witnessed how an abuser uses power and control to clamp down on his victim, making the victim feel trapped, powerless, option less, and hopeless.
Experiencing this growing up I obviously had no idea that what I was witnessing was "domestic violence". We were conditioned to believe that this was just "cultural" norm. It is only after getting involved with Connections for Abused Women and their Children that I realized that this abusive behavior that I had grown up watching perfectly fit the well-documented profile of an abuser.
Often people in abusive relationships do not know that they are in an abusive and toxic relationship because the issue of domestic violence is rarely discussed, much less in public.
This is where I need YOUR help! This is where intervention counts - from all of us at every level in the community. I urge you to join my campaign once again this year, to raise funds and awareness about Domestic Violence and make homes a safer place for the victims and their children.
No amount is small enough and EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS! Your contribution will be matched by Allstate's Purple Purse Challenge and will enable my organization CAWC to continue helping victims of domestic violence empower themselves.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my cause.
