Continue Architecture Studies
Organized by: João Freitas
My name is Joao Freitas and I am currently an architecture student at Savannah College of Art and Design. As an international student from Sao Paulo, Brazil I am struggling financially to make ends meet. I am going into my junior year this coming Fall.
I played for SCAD’s tennis team, where I was awarded a full scholarship. However, after playing four years (two at SCAD and two at IPFW, my previous school) of college tennis I am no longer able to receive this type of scholarship. I applied for the current student scholarship at my school, but unfortunately I could not be awarded with any scholarship. I have been trying extremely hard to find ways to pay for my education and receive any financial aid, yet I have received no other form of scholarship or support.
I am doing everything within my capable reach to pay SCAD’s tuition. I work three jobs on campus, one as an Orientation Assistant, one as a student trainer assistant at SCAD’s Gym, and the third one as a soccer referee for indoor soccer intramurals. As an international student I am not allowed to work over 20 hours per week. Thus, making it even more difficult to financially support myself. The cost of enrollment at SCAD goes beyond $50,000 per year, which is not close to what my parents or I can afford and without my athletic scholarship I may lose my opportunity to earn a college degree.
If I do not pay my tuition, in full, by the end of this semester, I will no longer be an enrolled student. In addition to losing my education my U.S. student visa would automatically expire, forcing me to go back to my country without a degree after studying abroad for four years.
Throughout the years in the USA I earned many honors in athletics, like being nominated the captain of the tennis team for two years, receiving awards such as MVP, All Conference First Team, Coach’s Award, Champion of Character; and also academic honors: Dean’s List, Chancellor Award, having a 3.7 GPA and many projects exposed on the wall at SCAD.
I am almost near the end of my college journey and earning an architecture degree at SCAD. It has been a lifelong dream to graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In order for this dream to become a reality I need financial aid. I am opening this account with CrowdRise in order to raise money so that I can continue my studies and ultimately graduate with a degree in architecture.
Thanks & regards,
