BENEFITING: CHICAGO METROPOLITAN BATTERED WOMENS NETWORK
ORGANIZER: CHICAGO METROPOLITAN BATTERED WOMENS NETWORK
October is Domestic Violence awareness month. Please join me in raising funds for the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network. The Network is dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by domestic violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and connecting domestic violence victims to direct service providers.
Founded in 1980, its members include Domestic Violence organizations and affiliate organizations. Across the State of Illinois, the Network is responsible for the following
- The Network’s Medical Response Collaborative trains hospital personnel to identify victims earlier in the cycle of violence
- The Network operates The State of Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline (877-TO END DV) – a confidential link to community-based domestic violence services, that answers over 24,000 calls a year
- The Network’s Centralized Training Institute trains thousands of allies to better support victims and challenge society’s tolerance of domestic violence
- The Network helped pass Senate Bill 1547 that protects victims from being evicted from their apartments for calling 911 during an abusive incident
Children who live in violent homes are up to 8 times more likely to be abused or injured, either directly or while trying to defend a parent. The Network connects victims and their children to community based shelters and services. Help spread awareness and support these critical programs.
