BENEFITING: BLUE PHOENIX VILLAGE INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 14, 2016
We are a team of parents and friends working our tails off to get a new non-profit foundation off the ground. Our goal is to run this whole foundation with volunteers and maximize the monetary outcomes for those we serve. The people helping are those who literally cannot help themselves or have exhausted all of their own resources and stand in need of a village of supporters. We are building bridges between resources for higher education and college-bound youth who have terminally ill or deceased parents. I, Billie Glazier, the primary founder of this organization, have served as a school administrator for longer than 10 years. During that time I have witnessed multiple students walk away from dreams and give up on goals due to the financial hardships associated with having a terminally ill parent or funeral expenses when a parent has passed away. Not only are these students losing one of the most important people in their lives, but they are also experiencing the death of hope when the money simply is not there to continue those music lessons or apply for that college of choice. Often, these students give up on many aspects of normality because they are emotionally and financially drained. My husband, Joel Glazier, and I have picked up the bill for many of these students as we could afford to do so. But, recently a student who is extremely dear to our hearts, a girl we have grown to love, lost her mother following a two-year battle with cancer. We wanted to help her and we just didn't have the money to commit to all of her academic expenses. Our choices were to not help others or change the way we are helping. The latter it is. Joe and I discussed our options for being a pillar for others and we decided that we need to start a movement; lay the foundations of a "Village," because sometimes it does take a village to raise a child. We are working day in and day out to make this happen for any student who is at risk of walking away from dreams following the loss of a parent or when a parent is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Our organization is called, "Blue Phoenix Village, Inc." It is a 501(c)3 organization and it is growing! Our benefit dinner is called, "Cookin' With Compassion." CWC is scheduled for October 14th at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, AL. WE NEED SPONSORS! 100% of proceeds will go to assist students with terminally ill or deceased parents. The benefit dinner planned for which we, Joe and I, are donating ALL of the food is currently being advertised on free sites only. We even started our own catering business to get around the legalities of serving food at benefits and having a license so we could confirm that the food is donated free of charge for this dinner. Our catering business will serve all fundraisers for this nonprofit without expectation of payment. We need help getting other aspects of this dinner met. We need: Entertainment, Auction items, Tickets sold, Decorations, Dinnerware, Anything that will make this dinner the "place to be."
