BENEFITING: COPS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER INC
ORGANIZER: COPS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER INC
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
I have the privilege of running for a charity that is near & dear to my heart, Cops for Kids with Cancer. My dad had a passion for helping kids. Any event that helped children he would be one of the first volunteers to sign up. He was by far the best dad a kid could ever ask for. He put forth everything he had to help others. Unfortunately, on December 11, 1999, that all changed. Unable to overcome the mental illness he undoubtedly courageously fought, he died in an extremely tragic way. After thinking about him every single day since then, I decided there was one thing I could do. I could honor him by running in the Boston marathon this April 20th, just as he had many years ago.
He ran 4 Boston marathons & volunteered at every event you could think of that involved kids. This leads me to the group I am running for: Cops for Kids With Cancer. This organization provides support, by way of money, time and assistance to families of kids diagnosed with cancer. Working in the medical field I have seen first hand how families lives are turned upside down by cancer. CFKWC has no overhead costs so all donations go directly to families in need. CFKWC provides funds to allow family to be together, during those critical times. My dad, "Red" Crawford, would be the first person out there, if it meant helping a kid and their families who were suffering.
I am not a runner but I do believe you can accomplish anything you set you mind to. Please consider making a donation to my fundraising goal & to a great charity. No amount is too small, and all of it will be appreciated immensely. As I lace up my sneakers on April 20th, wear something red in honor of my dad & help to cheer on the runners!
