BENEFITING: COPS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER INC
ORGANIZER: COPS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER INC
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
In addition to the crushing emotional toll taken, there is a financial domino effect in having a child diagnosed with cancer. Most often, one parent must leave a job. Some treatments are not fully covered by insurance. It’s expensive to come to the city every day to be with your child – gas costs, parking fees and meals can sometimes add as much as $100 a week to a budget already cut in half. Families, once solvent, now find themselves on the financial brink.
WE CAN ALL HELP. Cops For Kids With Cancer donations, for example, saved a family from eviction, helped pay down overwhelming bills and paid to repair the only vehicle used to travel back and forth to the hospital. The situations are heartbreaking and all too real. In the last 4 years, including the hospital donations, Cops For Kids With Cancer has given to 157 families in need, totaling $870,000 in and around Massachusetts. That’s a lot of fundraising for a small charity, and the more the word gets out, the more requests they get. Cops For Kids With Cancer is always grateful for your support, either by donation or by participating in a fundraising event. Please support Cops for Kids with Cancer so we never have to deny a struggling family a helping hand.
My name is Frank Masiello Jr., and I am a Police Officer with the Ashland Police Department. On April 20th I will be running the 2015 Boston Marathon in support of Cops For Kids With Cancer. I have been lucky enough to never have cancer strike me or my wife and children. However, my wife and I have lost many family members to cancer. I have also had family and friends whose children have been stricken with cancer or leukemia. It is so sad to see a family fighting to keep their child alive and at the same time having to worry about the financial toll caused by missed work, medical bills, hospital stays, etc. Cops For Kids With Cancer helps families with financial aid and lets them keep their focus on getting their child better.
I have previously completed 4 Boston Marathons, and multiple other marathons and half marathons. Up until now, I was training and running with only a goal to finish. I am really happy and proud to be a member of the 2015 Boston Marathon Cops For Kids With Cancer Team. As a member of the Cops For Kids With Cancer team, I know that when I run and finish I am helping families and children who really need it. THANK YOU!
