EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
As I crossed the finish line in 2000, I swore I would never run a marathon again. When I hit a wall at mile 20 & my dad handed me gummy bears, the only thing that mentally got me through was knowing I had embarked upon such a journey because my childhood friend who I lost to Cancer in college never got such an opportunity. The thoughts & memories of him carried me those last 6 miles. Although he was older than Shannon "Shea" Crowley when he died, he too won the battle against cancer but lost the war when he got pneumonia.
The only reason I want to run Boston in 2015 is to raise money & awareness for Cops for Kids with Cancer. The only way I will take on this physical challenge again would be for this cause. And the only reason I know about CFKWC is because of the relationship between my friend & Shea. Although I never met Shea, I feel like she truly opened my eyes to the countless children being diagnosed with & suffering from pediatric cancer. She ignited a fire & passion in me surrounding CFKWC.
In October, I was present when CFKWC presented a Hanover 3.5 yr old and her family with a check for $5k. Ali was diagnosed with cancer in September & is 5 days older than my twins. Again, I would not have known of this resource for this local family without Shea. The minute I heard of the diagnosis, I reached out to CFKWC. I will never know the pain, the heartache nor the loss but I will always know that because of my efforts, so many families will be helped.
$5000 supports one family. My goal through this cold and arduous training journey is to raise $10,000 with the help of my friends & social media. Please help me. Every dollar raised goes directly to the families.
