BENEFITING: 3 LITTLE BIRDS 4 LIFE
Summer of 2009, I started having leg and sciatic nerve pain. As a 14 year old, everyone assumed it was a sports injury. After seeing a chiropractor, we went to my doctor as well. She agreed thinking it was a sports injury. After weeks had gone by and nothing was helping, I progressively got worse. I was unable to do my daily routine and things as simple as getting in/out of bed. My parents became very concerned. After my therapist saying she felt it was more than an injury she fought for an MRI of my pelvic bone be done. After a repeat MRI, I was setup with an oncology appt in Peoria a month out. With having diabetes, we were suggested to call my endocrinologist. She was on vacation but within 2 hours she had arranged an appt at St Jude within days. Of course my family accepted. From 2 days of appt I was having surgery to remove a large mass. In that time we learned the cancer had spread to my lungs and it was an aggressive form. Various treatments of chemo were not working and harming my kidneys, so we elected to stop. My health continued to decline and I had lost a good portion of feeling in my lower extremities. Upon going to the hospital an MRI showed 2 masses on my spine. I finished in patient chemo and started physical therapy. I am currently undergoing a new chemo due to continued growth.
