BENEFITING: SHARING TO LEARN
EVENT DATE: Apr 23, 2011
I will be running in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon 56km (34.8 miles) in Cape Town on Saturday 23 April 2011. Last April, I ran the Two Oceans Half Marathon and in February 11, I completed my first Marathon 42 km (26 miles) in Pretoria. So this will be my longest race and greatest challenge yet. This route is billed as the World's Most Beautiful Marathon so I'm hoping the stunning scenery will take my mind off the pain! http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/race/ultra
My daughter's 2nd grade class have been fundraising on behalf of Sharing to Learn, a non-profit organisation supporting an impoverished South African community in the village of Makuleke, near Kruger Park. The kids impressively raised enough to support 2 children for a year on their Orphan Mentor Program. My daughter persuaded me that as well as achieving my personal goal of completing the race, I could in a small way also contribute to help out the Makuleke community.
Sharing to Learn aim to give the village opportunities through education and have established two community libraries. They are now working to create a small technology centre, where children can work on educational computer programs that will give them vital skills for the future. Your donations will help buy much needed equipment. Check out http://www.sharingtolearn.org and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sharing-to-Learn
Thank you for all your support and donations! Follow my updates for news of my progress before race day.
