Corissa and Matthew's Charity Choice: Nelson County 4-H
Organized by: Corissa Wilson
"At 4-H, we believe in the power of young people to make a difference. We are America's largest youth development and youth mentoring organization - empowering almost six million kids with the skills to lead for a lifetime. 4-H is dedicated to learning and understanding how its programs help youth become responsible citizens leading healthy and productive lives and discovering critical science-focused innovations."
Matthew and Corissa wanted to choose a charity that guests could choose to give to in place of a traditional registry if the guest so desires. It was very easy for them to decide to choose Nelson County 4-H as their charity because the bride currently works there as the 4-H extension agent. Currently there is only $400 of county funding per year to run all 4-H clubs, in-school enrichment, after-school programs, and summer camp. This limits the amount of programming that can be offered to youth in an already very limited rural community. Extra funding would help fund programs like Lego Robotics, summer camp, day camps, cooking programs, molecular gastronomy projects, embryology, and much more.
