Corner of Love Medical Mission Trip
Organized by: Laura Lurry
EVENT DATE Jan 15, 2017
THE STORY: Please support Bob & Laura's medical service trip to rural Nicaragua to resupply health clinics and pharmacies in impoverished communities. San Ramón is a rural mountain town in the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua with a population of approximately 2,200 people. While it is an integral part of Nicaragua's Coffee Trail and receives a significant amount of tourism, it is primarily an agricultural community. Most people depend on subsistence farming and income from day labor on coffee plantations to survive. The combined impacts of extreme poverty and limited road infrastructure result in very limited access to basic services. The people of Nicaragua have survived foreign occupation, military dictatorships, ten years of civil war, devastating natural disasters and, more recently, the effects of climate change. Volunteers from Washington State will spend a week in and around San Ramón carrying out four medical-dental clinics in areas lacking basic needs like clothing, potable water, and medicine. The team is composed not only of healthcare professionals but also general volunteers who are willing to help count pills and vitamins, organize the pharmacy, sort shoes and donations, and run the clinics. Seattle-based non-profit, Corner of Love, leads more than twenty medical-dental-optical brigades per year to serve in San Ramon and sixty outer-lying villages. “AMOR” Mission To Nicaragua Week 1 (Enumclaw, WA & Friends): Click here.
