BENEFITING: RAY GRAHAM ASSOCIATION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
EVENT: Tough Mudder Chicago 2016
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
THE STORY:
When my uncle Chuck Rihacek was born to my grandparents in 1956, there were few options for parents of babies born with Down's Syndrome. Doctors and social workers encouraged them to put Chuck in a home, public schools refused to let him go to kindergarten and I clearly recall seeing people recoil in fear when they saw my uncle in the 1970s. Luckily, my grandmother Dorothy, found support and hope in the Ray Graham Association who have helped Chuck and many other children and adults born with developmental disabilities.
Ray Graham Association https://ray-graham.org/ is all about empowering people with disabilities. And not everyone is empowered quite the same way. With their broad array of educational, vocational, community, respite, early intervention, recreational, home-based and residential programs and services, RGA is able to find just the right way to empower each of the amazing, gifted individuals they serve.
Through RGA, Chuck received an education, social and job skills training, and a place to live in a group home in Bloomingdale, IL where he resides today. Empowering people with disabilities has been Ray Graham Association's mission since 1950.
My neighbors in Illinois know that the State of IL has dramatically cut funding to important programs like RGA's. Please help me raise some much-needed funds for the Ray Graham Association.
