Costa Rica here I am
March 05, 2017
I was diagnosed with Stage 2B Triple Negative Breast Cancer at the age of 38. It was not a diagnosis that I ever expected. I was cleared in December by the Radiologist and the advice was that I should come back in a couple years. I remember thinking that I will be back every year as long as it is covered by insurance. This cancer diagnosis rocked my whole world along with my family. After getting over the initial shock we decided on our plan of attack. God worked it out for us because our friends recommended the cancer center and doctors for my treatment. I never felt that I was alone throughout this process at all. This experience has helped me to realize how fortunate I am to be blessed with family and friends who that love me. When I found out about A Fresh Chapter I felt that it was an opportunity to give back what I have been given. When you are in the fight of your life knowing that you are not alone makes a big difference. A Fresh Chapter is providing me with an amazing opportunity to volunteer with other survivors and caregivers in a way that would benefit our community. Helping people has always been my passion, I have traveled to the Dominican Republican, Bahamas and Trinidad to help service the poor/ needy. I was a Disaster Relief Team Member for the Red Cross responding to local and national disasters. Combining my love for serving and travel is a great way for me not to lose the lessons I have learned while I face the impact of cancer. I am doing this for the people we have lost and the ones that are still fighting every day. I'm doing this because I do not want my life to be defined by cancer but that it is only a part of it. I need to show the world and myself that although I may not be the same person this new me can still accomplish her dreams and make an impact on the lives around me.
All the funds raised for this trip will go towards my 2 week volunteer trip to Costa Rica, travel arrangements, classes and any remaining funds will be donated to another participant to make sure that his or her fresh chapter is stress free and filled with love, hope and peace. Thank you for helping to make my new exciting and glorious chapter more of a reality.
