Cota Dodge Adoption Expenses
Organized by: Wesley Cota-Dodge
In June of 2013 we became foster parents, and 2 amazingly wonderful boys were placed with us under the pretense that the biological mother was planning on giving up her rights.
Ultimately, the court decided against all recommendations and returned the children to their biological mother's custody on November 21, 2014. We were able to see them sporatically for a few months after they were taken from us, but we lost all contact in February after bio mom stopped reaching out and also stopped responding to texts.
Anna and I were and are completely devastated. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to go through the foster system again after experiencing such a horrible situation ourselves, and watching so many of our friends go through the same thing. However, we were informed of a division called the Placement and Recruitment Unit through Los Angeles County DCFS that places kids further along the process into permanent homes. While there is still a chance that these children may be reunified with their biological family, the chances are much smaller.
Here's where our sticky situation comes in, and we need your help.
We were going to pay for all of our updated background checks and CPR/First Aid renewals, but Anna was in a car accident last Thursday. Thankfully, she is fine, but the money that we had intended to spend on renewing our paperwork has all gone to pay the insurance deductible.
The boys' case is closed as of today. Our renewal paperwork has been completed. These are the last steps we need to take in order to have another child placed with us from the PRU through our agency.
While we really hate asking for help, we know that so many of you have offered so many different types of assistance in the past. We hope that you have an extra couple of bucks to spare to help us get through this bump in the road. In all seriousness, every little bit helps.
We know that the foster system is the best and right place for us to expand our family. We also know that after our devastating loss, we will do things much differently this time.
If you are able to donate, I promise that we will add you to our holiday card list, and you will be one of the first to catch a glimpse of whatever amazing little kid gets placed with us. We appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks for being you!
