THE STORY:
In the summer of 2001, I lost my amazing grandmother Marta to pancreatic cancer. My grandmother was inspirational in her style, grace, and philanthropy. She also played a large part in why I moved to New York over 10 years ago. When she began to lose her hair she still managed to look amazing in her collection of wigs with varying cuts and styles, all equally fabulous. I, on the other hand, opted to pierce my face and dye my hair with bleach. Despite this, thankfully I had the great fortune (or burden depending on who you ask), of having long, thick fairly-healthy hair. Said hair, which I had very little use for or interest in styling, grew quite rapidly as well. So, after losing my grandmother and feeling helpless I said to myself, "Self- can I lop off this madness AND help someone else in the process?" Answer: YES.
So I removed the lip ring, stopped with the bleach and grew my hair out from Chemical Blond to Brilliant Brunette. It was time to get to work!
Over the last few years, I have been blessed to be able to donate twice already, and in the past I have given to Locks of Love- a fabulous charity for children's wigs. Now as i approach my 30th birthday (gulp) and the 10 year anniversary of my Grandmother's passing (bigger gulp), I have chosen to donate my hair to an adult in need. It is my hope that my grandmother's impeccable style and beauty will be passed along to another equally fabulous woman who won't let cancer dull her shine!. As this is my third time donating - and we all know that the 3rd time is the charm- I am hoping to send along some $$$ and not just my plain old hair.... THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!
COUNTDOWN TO THE CUT....
~For every $100 raised, I will cut off an inch of my hair, with an ideal target of $1200.
~However, if we hit $2400, i will agree to the chop and style of the donors' preference - subject to a vote, complete with photo mock ups.
PROCEEDS:
As The Libby Ross Foundation is my personal cause, a portion of proceeds raised will go to supporting Pose for Pink Yoga Program. The remaining will go to the American Cancer Society, who distributes the hair to adults, the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation and Locks of Love, because you can't leave out the kiddies!!
DATE: I havent set a firm donate date but let's all plan for a summertime short 'do, shall we?
