Courage Continues At Home

THE STORY:

With troops returning from Iraq & other conflicts, the US is faced with an influx of men & women who are coming home perhaps to economic, social, & physical uncertainties. We've joined with others in getting ready! Our founder, Katherine Fairfield Freston (Vassar ’52), retired Marine Captain from the Korean War, is carrying on her grandfather’s legacy of “See a need? Fill it”, with veterans as our initial focus. Help us continue the phenomenal fundraising & awareness campaign we launched for local veterans during October 2011's unprecedented marathon comedy tour - "30 Shows in 30 Days – Courage Continues At Home" with national headliner comedian/actor & Brewster, NY, Navy veteran PJ Walsh.

You can join us as we continue our successful fundraising & awareness campaign - "Courage Continues At Home" that puts money in the hands of local veterans and their families for the basics of food, clothing, shelter, & access to medical care, while making known to entire populations the availability of local VFW & American Legion Posts and county, state, & federal veteran service providers or people who can help. H. G. Fairfield Arts’ mission is to help meet the needs of our communities and the environment through promotion and training in expressive and creative arts & culture. We know the annual economic impact of the Arts on New York State is $25.7 billion each year (http://nysca.org/public/home.cfm), making us part of a healthy viable economic engine able to be maintained, developed, and engaged.

Your help will further the creation of links to employable (re)-training for veterans, their families, & our communities, via working artisans, merchants, businesses, and cultural institutions. Available are radio engineering & television show internships, apprenticeships with skilled craftspeople, artisans, events production, media & marketing, organizational & personal development, and every aspect a person could think of in terms of careers & skills in arts & culture, from wholistic well-being & body/mind work to planning/construction/operation of a first - an off-the-grid arts campus.

We live in New York State with a population of roughly 1 million veterans of military service. The 5 counties in our US Congressional DIstrict 19 (mid-Hudson Valley) has 100,000 veterans, and counting. Our proximity to New York City and the surrounding urban sprawl gives us access to over half of NY State's veterans, right here in our backyard. Last year NY State spent on average $4.38 per veteran. The effects of our ongoing media campaign mean more veterans and their families can learn about the valid resources available to them (county, state, or federal budgets have no funds to get the word out). As one State Veterans Service Provider told us; “Even one veteran coming forward can result in proper claims & channels being activated to bring $1million into the state.”

The Journal News (24dec11, B. Tumulty, p.1), reports that in the past 2 years only 29,200 jobs have been created in NY State, whereas in the one year of our incorporation H. G. Fairfield Arts has put to work 25 people, and over 41 local companies, 17 firms, 21 media outlets (radio, tv, newspapers & magazines), 4 townships, more than 21 local & regional arts & cultural organizations, and given to 19 local VFWs, American Legions or veterans organizations & VA Medical Centers, all in a significant contribution to the economic vibrancy of our communities.

Come be a part of the excitement! It all adds up. Engage the power of service as reciprocal!
