BENEFITING: COVENANT HOUSE NEW ORLEANS
ORGANIZER: COVENANT HOUSE NEW ORLEANS
On April 19, bright and early in the morning, I'll be running (well, jogging or maybe just walking) to support Covenant House in the 2014 Crescent City Classic, a 10K race. Please support my campaign for this worthy cause.
Covenant House New Orleans was founded on the edge of the French Quarter over 25 years ago to provide a safe haven for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Over the years, they have provided over 20,000 kids with food, shelter, clothing, medical care, educational and vocational support, individual and family counseling, job readiness and placement, short & long-term housing, life skills, and more.
The vast majority of Covenant's youth has endured physical and/or sexual abuse and have also experienced the violence of the streets. Counselors estimate 80% suffer from some form of traumatic stress disorder. Every kid who walks through Covenant's doors receives a full medical & behavioral health checkup. After that, the first priority is always to reunite the youth with their healthy, functional family. Last year, Covenant House New Orleans purchased 154 bus tickets, to everywhere from Oregon to Maine to Florida.
For the majority of kids for whom family is not an option, Covenant gives them an educational & vocational assessment and helps them find a job that suits their skills and interest. They offer many services to help, from mock interviews & resume writing classes to workshops on basic life skills and healthy relationships.
As you can imagine, in these challenging times, there is a desperate need for Covenant House's services.100% of your donation goes directly to Covenant House to support at-risk youth.
I really appreciate your generosity, no matter what the amount.. every little bit helps--thanks!!
