BENEFITING: COVENANT HOUSE NEW ORLEANS
ORGANIZER: COVENANT HOUSE NEW ORLEANS
EVENT DATE: Apr 04, 2015
On April 4th, I'll be running (or perhaps walking) to support Covenant House in the 2015 AllState Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic.
By forgoing the usual $45 registration fee and committing to raise at least $200 , I am hoping to help them reach their goal of raising $30,000 this year. I participated last year and the $670 that I raised was a small bit towards their raising over $20,000 for the youths of New Orleans.
For that I got a really comfy tshirt, lots of questions as to why my tshirt was purpose, and the opportunity to tour Covenant House and learn about all they offer to the community. It is truely an amazing place.
Covenant House was founded on the edge of the French Quarter over 25 years ago to provide a safe haven for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. They provide kids with food, shelter, clothing, medical care, educational and vocational support, individual and family counseling, job readiness and placement, housing, life skills, and more. The vast majority of these youths have endured physical and/or sexual abuse and have also experienced the violence of the streets. Covenant House is a safe haven for them to learn to the lifeskills needed to become a thriving member of the New Orleans community. Amazingly, they have done it without increasing their operating budget despite working overcapacity.
