Some of you who know me know that I lost my father suddenly to a heart attack when he was only 49 years old. My brother and I awoke to paramedics attempting to resuscitate my father in his bedroom while my mother was crying in the background. I was only 12 years old when this happened. I didn’t understand really what was going on only that we were waiting at home for the phone call to hear everything was going to be fine…but it wasn’t. No one around me had experienced something like this before and I never felt so alone.
I had a great support of friends; some whom I will never forget who stepped up to help me but I always felt like labeled as the “kid whose dad died.”
I wish at the time there was a place like The Children’s Room.
A safe place to go, to talk about what I was feeling along with others my age going through similar circumstances.
I chose this charity to run with because it the meaning behind it holds a special place in my heart. The Children’s Room provides a safe, supportive environment so that no child or family member has to grieve alone when something tragic happens. They provide Family Peer Support Groups and allow children of all ages to express their grief through play, art, music, and encourage sharing of all memories of their loved one.
There is no charge for this spectacular service and The Children’s Room relies on donations like yours to keep them running.
I am proud to be running the Boston Marathon for the 2014 Miles & Memories Team. Your donation will go a long way!
See you at the finish line!
Lots of love,
