EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I am excited to announce that this winter I am training for the 119th running of the Boston Marathon. Running the Marathon is not new for me – but running for a charity is. To be honest, asking for donations is not something I do well. But – my daughter has challenged me to give something back to the community and run for a charity as well as to reach my goal of completing the Marathon.
I have decided to run this historic race as part of the Cradles to Crayons team and raise funds for children from birth to age 12 who are in need of basic, essential items. After years of cheering for this team from the sidelines, it is an honor to be chosen to run with them.
From being involved in this charity, I was surprised and saddened to learn that over 300,000 children live in homeless or low-income situations in Massachusetts. As parents, we all work hard to make sure that our kids are healthy and happy and have all the right tools to be successful in their lives. The money I raise will contribute to Cradles to Crayons’ vision that one day, every child in need will have the essentials to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. The support they provide could look like a backpack filled with school supplies to make sure the year starts on a positive note, like the children in my picture; it might feel like a warm winter coat that protects against the cold New England winter; it could be the squeaky sound of a pair of sneakers that makes a child comfortable on the playground, playing with friends.
Between “Snowmageddon” and “Deep Freezes,” the weather this year has made training especially challenging. But I’ve found that, despite the weather, participating on this team is very motivating. It feels great to know that my running is helping such a great cause and that my 26.2 miles on April 20th will be a meaningful for me and for Cradles to Crayons.
I need your help to reach my goal of raising $5,000 by race day. Through the generosity of my friends and family, I know I will succeed.
Thanks in advance for any and all help you can give!
