The Story

DEADLINE TO GIVE: Oct 24, 2016

The Class of 2011 established the Cragin Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of their late classmate Cragin Elizabeth Brown (May 3, 1982–May 10, 2010). The MBA Class of 2006 Reunion Class Gift Campaign partnered with the Class of 2011 to pledge enough to elevate this Fund to endowment level.

Cragin lived a full and eventful life. As a young teenager she made a “List of Life's Goals,” attaining many, including “ski the Alps,” “live in Manhattan,” “visit the Great Wall of China,” and “watch an African sunset.” After graduating from Middlebury College, she worked at the International School of Munich, Germany. She traveled to the major cities of western and eastern Europe and the British Isles; China, Japan, and South Korea in Asia; Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia in Africa; and Egypt and Jordan in the Middle East. She honored and embraced diverse cultures.

In her eight months at the Ross School of Business, Cragin made a lasting impact. Her strong work ethic and dedication made her an amazing friend and classmate. Beyond academics, she was dedicated to community building as social chair of her section; to career development through the Ross Consulting Club; and to Ross future generations as a Ross Admissions Student Ambassador and Career Counselor.  Andrew Driscoll, MBA ’11, a friend who knew Cragin since high school noted, “She enjoyed every minute of every day and you could always count on Cragin to brighten your day with her smile, a quick joke, or one of her famous hugs.”

Award consideration is given to a Ross MBA2 who has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the Ross community through democratic fairness and a spirit of inclusivity.   Consideration criteria should be highly geared toward someone who shares Cragin’s sense of innate curiosity, understanding of cultural diversity, and love of travel, adventure, and learning.  As Cragin had immense empathy for all (especially animals), this person should also demonstrate understanding for those who are underserved / disadvantaged.
