EVENT DATE: Oct 19, 2013
On October 19, 2013, two ecologists and one naturalist will embark on a 50 mile hike through the untouched wilderness of the Adirondack Mountains. Our goal is to complete the 50 mile loop around Cranberry Lake between October 19 and October 23. The trip includes five days of hiking and four nights of camping. Information on this trail can be found here www.cranberrylake50.org/.
As one of the ecologists, I am deeply grateful to be able to experience such pristine wilderness. I am grateful to be able to breathe the fresh air, enjoy the silence of the forest, and walk along one of the most beautiful lakes in the northeast. Mostly, however, I am grateful for my health and ability to do so. While preparing, I can't help but think about those who are unable to experience such journeys.
Many are fighting illness, including children that are suffering with cancer. They are fighting for the opportunity to enjoy the most simplest pleasures that we take for granted. They rely on their families for support, both emotionally and financially.
Understandably, this is a large and overwhelming burden to bare. This is where the Ronald McDonald House steps in!
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides support to these children in many ways, including to their families who fight beside them on a daily basis. They provide the support needed to fight these illnesses. You can learn more about this charity by visiting http://www.rmhc.org/.
So what am I asking for? I am looking for sponsors who are willing to support every step I take this October. Nothing would please me more than to know that I am walking to make life easier for someone else. In addition to what Kleinfelder has already raised, I am hoping to raise at least $2,000 to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Any amount helps, however there is a $10 minimum on this site. You will be supporting the idea that these children will one day be able to walk the very trail I did.
