BENEFITING: HALO TRUST USA INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 06, 2013
Six years ago I watched Parkour practitioner Jin put his abilities to good use and crawl over 3.5 miles in a single day to raise money for an African relief charity (see video on this page). Inspired by his determination and selflessness I've long wanted to do a charity crawl of my own. I figured it was finally time to stop talking and start crawling.
I'll be raising money for the Halo Trust, a non-profit group dedicated to disposing of landmines, bombs, and munitions left behind in old war zones. Forgotten mines kill and maim tens of thousands every year and the least I can do is spend a day on all fours so that someone else can be spared a lifetime of never walking again. The goal of $3,325 is enough to fund a demining effort in an area for an entire month.
My plan is to start at the Philadelphia Art Museum, at the top of the Rocky Steps, and crawl to City Hall and back, a distance of roughly 3 miles. If I have enough strength and time after the return trip I'll continue to lap the Steps until I can't go any further.
