CRAYON COLLECTION

Crayon Collection is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to collect and repurpose millions of crayons and donate them to kids in need nationally. Underpaid teachers are spending an average of $750/year out of pocket for classroom supplies. By implementing the Crayon Collection in large restaurant chains, such as Islands and California Pizza Kitchen, then pairing them with a local high poverty/ Title 1 School we are able to donate gently used crayons to schools in need and preventing them from ending up in landfills.

Our mission is simple: to collect as many crayons as possible and donate them to kids in need. Billions of crayons are produced in the U.S. each year, and much of that ends up in our landfills. These petroleum-derived crayons can take years – even decades- to decompose. Meanwhile, U.S. teachers in underfunded public schools are spending an average of $750 of their own income per year on supplies for their classrooms.

Our solution – pairing participating Crayon Collection restaurant chains, such as California Pizza Kitchen and Islands Restaurants, with local high-poverty Title1 schools. These recipient schools pick up the restaurants' gently-used crayons every month to augment the supplies they need in their classrooms. Preschools and elementary schools throughout the country also hold crayon drives and donate to nearby schools in need, which teaches invaluable lessons to our youth about eco-mindedness.

Crayon Collection also affords us a chance to instill an eco-conscious mindset within our children. We feel children should learn not only the advantages of recycling, but also of re-using items and reducing the great deal of waste in our culture. Saving crayons is a simple lesson, but it generates many relatable experiences for our kids.
