What We’re Doing

Our team is raising funds for a public art mural, and any donation you contribute will go toward the wall repair and prep, designing the mural with the community, painting, and sealing the wall for protection.

Following the tragic events at the Orlando Pulse Nightclub, we were inspired to work hand-in-hand with the community of Muncie to create a piece of public art that would illustrate our city’s acceptance of and support for people of all backgrounds. Since that spark of inspiration, our project’s process can be described in 4 steps: looking, listening, collaborating, and celebrating.

We started by looking around our neighborhood to find a place for this public art and spotted the south wall of 306 S. Walnut. We recognized it as a big, blank canvas waiting to be transformed into a mural. In addition to being the perfect spot for a mural, this location is also the current home of the Mark III Taproom, Indiana’s oldest LGBT nightclub. Kismet? Maybe.

We couldn’t design a community art project without listening to the community members who will see it every day, so we started by sitting down with the staff at the Mark to pick their brains. They shared their values, ideas, likes, and dislikes with us, which helped to inform our design process. We will hold a follow-up design session this summer to get feedback from other businesses and individuals who interact with the space.

Many hands make light work, and we want to get as many Muncie residents as possible in on the action when it comes to this project. You can help out in a variety of ways-- by spreading the word, donating to our cause, attending our fundraiser on August 26, or by joining our paint crew.

Hard work deserves a party. When the mural is painted, sealed, and ready to share with the world, we intend to hold a celebration for all community members to join, in conjunction with a First Thursday art walk event.

Meet Our Team

We are a group of artists living and working in Muncie, Indiana. We’re interested in collaborative work across a variety of mediums that serves to promote our community’s interests and build a culture of inclusion and creative expression.

JoAnna Darda is our Lead Designer. She digs up inspiration from the web, as well as her city’s local landscape.  She can usually be found with her head buried in a pad of graph paper filled with notes, patterns, and sketches.

Braydee Euliss is our Creative Placemaker. As a Muncie native, she advocates for local arts and culture and their power to fuel our community’s growth and transformation. When she isn’t producing events, curating exhibitions, or focused on developing opportunities for other area artists, Braydee likes to crank out handmade jewelry.

Faith Kellermeyer is our Project Manager. She specializes in taking an idea and running with it. Faith is our main point person for inquiries and communication, and has been voted “most likely to come to every meeting prepared with handouts.”

Jannell Summers is our Creative Director. All she wants to do is make art. She finds inspiration in music, coffee, and books. She is passionate about making the city brighter, more fun, and an even more positive place to live through art. She can be found deejaying some nights and in her studio most days.
