So it is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here.
I'm thankful for a lot. Of course I'm thankful for my family, several gone too early, others here and supportive. I'm thankful for being a mom. My son is truly the love of my life. As a parent all I want to do is to protect him, help him, provide him every opportunity to succeed. I want him to be everything he can be. I reach for the stars.
No matter what ever happens in my life or my son's I still feel blessed. He has chronic health issues. On the grand scheme of things it is nothing compared to other kids (and adults I see). I look at families that have children with developmental disabilities. I think how hard that must be as a mom (dad, guardian or sibling).
Do you know a teen or adult that is developmentally disabled? Do you know that there are limited opportunities for these folks to socialize, learn, keep active...be a part of something. Many age out of "the system."
Few of you know that I've been doing work for an amazing local nonprofit Creative Living, Inc. (CL). Its a small organization with one building, part time staff (I'm the development director) and an all-volunteer board. In fact, many of these folks have spent years tirelessly helping CL.
I'm reaching out to you because I NEED YOUR HELP. I know you are crazy busy this time of year. Like me I know you probably feel like all you do is write checks. However, this is the biggest fundraiser of the year for CL. All monies go directly back into the organization. The smallest amount matters.
Industry friends: Of course I'm looking to get larger amounts and corporate sponsors. I'm happy to chat with you about it. At a minimum, please consider donating here.
Local friends, friends and family...this is important to me. I know for some of you money is tight. Like I said, every little bit helps; as does spreading the word. If you can't donate anything can I ask you to reach out to you network and forward this to them?
This Thanksgiving as I participate in the Feaster Five 5K I'll be thinking of you and I'm thankful you are in my life.
