THE STORY:

Talented youth of Jamaica have much to share but little opportunity to do so. Instead of spending time developing skills or studying, children often find trouble an easier hobby. Drug use, violence, and unhealthy relationships can often lead to long-term social problems including illiteracy, poverty, and a missing voice in the global dialogue.

Let’s encourage these children to work together by producing creative projects with accessible modern technology. By using the internet to communicate, collaborate and share their artistic projects online, children can feel empowered to have a stronger voice in today’s world and contribute to a globalizing culture.

We want to introduce “digital storytelling” to the children of Bunker’s Hill, Jamaica so they can practice working together towards common goals: writing & recording a music album, planting a garden, and interacting with volunteers. This process will be turned into an inspiring film using footage captured by the children, soundtracked with their music, and even marketed with their social media.

This initial 3-week program will allow children to practice teamwork by working in groups . They will develop their creativity by writing & recording their own music album, planting a garden at school, and documenting the experience with mobile apps. Beneficiaries of this initial program will include students, teachers, parents, schools, local businesses, churches, Bunker’s Hill, Jamaica, and the digitally-connected world.
