Cricket and sports to support Diabetes for Kids
Organized by: A C
This is a personal story not only for me but for some of my friends, am sure some of you and more than 300 million people today. This is with reference to Diabetes, a condition that can trigger without any advance notice, a condition that can happen to anyone at any age, the only solution today is to embrace it and learn to live with it. We have been shell shocked to experience one of the most talented little kids in this world get affected by Type 1 Diabetes suddenly at tender age of 7 recently. His dream being to play at the highest level for the nation one day. Our effort is to spread the message that nothing can stop our dreams. A group of local cricket players, we will compete at the highest level of the sport across this world possible, win hearts and show the world, esp local youth and the little kids who need motivation that nothing should stop them from pursuing dreams. We talk of big celebrities across the world, we are no celebrity, but for sure look forward to inspire a few local kids with our dedication and support. Why we need this donation We are working professionals, ordinary citizens and passionate competitive weekend cricketers. Being sportspersons we want to participate in competitions which are at the highest level in the world. Win or lose, we will donate personally the number of runs team scores towards the cause. If we win a tourney we will donate the prize money towards Diabetes and help kids and families in need. What will you do with the funds ? We will donate a portion to the 5 local kids who we know personally and we will ensure parents use the funds to invest in their dreams. A portion of the funds can help us invest for a large amount of donation with our skills. Meaning we can participate in major tourneys and also take the kids affected to such high profile events which will be a great exposure for the little youth players. The first event we are registering for is the US Open in Florida where the prize money is $100,000. We will donate 60 % of the prize money to the American Diabetes association if we win the tourney. We are incurring substantial cost to participate in such tourneys, any amount can help us and also will help us help those in need. Why fight for Diabetes ? While more than 300 milion people suffer from Diabetes today, the World Health Organization estimates that by 2030, more than 347 million people will be suffering from diabetes around the world, 10 times the number affected by HIV/AIDS. Of that 347 million, more than 298 million will live in developing countries, where most will not have access to adequate healthcare.
